Starting solids is one of my favorite and most exciting milestones in your baby’s journey! Whether you’re introducing foods with purees, exploring baby-led weaning, or taking a mixed approach, having the right tools can make the process smoother and more enjoyable. Below are some of my favorite feeding essentials to support a safe and successful transition to solids.
Please note that I am not affiliated with any of these brands and do not receive any commission—I simply love these products and recommend them based on my experience as a feeding therapist.
Numnum baby spoons or other short-handled silicone spoons such as these!
Numnum beginner bowl, EZPZ mats, and bamboo silicone bowls such as these!
Keep the mess under control by adding a food catcher under the high chair or placing a splat mat on the floor!
Long sleeve footie onesies are great or long sleeved bibs such as these!
For teaching straw drinking, this honeybear straw cup is a great tool. Once they've learned to independently suck the liquid up the straw, you can transition to something like this Munchkin weighted straw cup or this Lollaland weighted straw cup
Make sure to practice some open cup drinking, too! You can use a medicine cup, small 1oz glass/cup, or this EZPZ tiny cup
Incorporating teething toys that can encourage good tongue movement and oral exploration is a great idea -- these also come in handy during those tough teething days! Stick them in the freezer to give them a nice cooling quality to soothe those gums! These are some of my favorite!
Even this O-ball will encourage so much oral exploration while they independently work on their gross and fine motor skills!
If you find yourself needing additional guidance during this phase or want hands-on support, I’d love to help! Feel free to reach out for a consultation or join one of my in-person Intro to Solids classes for expert guidance and practical tips! Happy feeding!
